Welcome to 6th Grade at DGS!
We are so excited for the 2016-2017 school year! Check here for classroom updates, information about excursions and homework questions throughout the year.
Regular volunteer days:
Every Friday and Saturday, 10am-12pm, April 15-Oct 28. The whole family is welcome to come help with whatever's going on in the field! CSA Food Shares: It's like pre-paid grocery shopping, all summer and fall! Buy a share in the farm and come once a week, every week throughout the season, to get a portion of what's harvested! Shares of farm-fresh veggies, herbs, and flowers are $425 (about $20/week), and extra options from other local farms for eggs, fruit, meat, bread, mushrooms, coffee and tea are also available: check out Sprout City Farms' website for more info and to sign up. Support the Farm Stand (starting in August): Every Wednesday from the start of school to Halloween, 6th graders help run a Farm Stand in the school parking lot featuring fresh veggies, herbs, and flowers from our farm, plus fruit and eggs from other local farms. SNAP purchases are doubled in value, and we keep prices reasonable and accessible to all! Please get in touch with Farmer Meg (720-319-8126; [email protected]) if you have any questions or input regarding the farm and its programs!

Families,
Conference sign-ups went home today. Each student received an individual letter stating that conferences were entirely optional or that the teachers would really like to meet with you this round. Conferences will be held after school on February 21st - 23rd (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mr. Potter or I. Regardless of the letter, we would love to meet with any family who would like to meet. For families who don't schedule conferences, we will send home report cards with the students on Friday, February 24th. Feel free to return the sheet given to your child with your preferred times, or sign up here. We hope you enjoyed your winter break and are excited for the year to come.
We have a lot to look forward to in the next few months. Check out the excursion page for information regarding our Sustainable Communities excursions. We hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving Break!
Check out the math, literacy, and excursion info pages for up-to-date information! Student-led conferences are held November 7th - 11th.
We sent home a paper sign-up sheet today in class. You can also sign up here. If you return the paper copy to school, it is helpful if you give us two to three times that work for you and then we'll send back the sheet with the time slot that was open. We would like to have all the conferences scheduled by Wednesday, November 2nd. Conferences are 30 minutes long and you'll get to meet with both Mr. Potter about math and Ms. Mundt & Mr. Truitt regarding literacy. One of our longest-held traditions at DGS is 6th-grade hosted Harvest Festival. This year's version, to be held on Thursday, October 20th, promises to be outstanding. Student committees are working hard to organize all the different food, games, art, and other fun activities for the big day. We need help from parents in two important ways:
1. All students are asked to bring some food to share with everyone for Harvest Festival. I hope that your child has already spoken to you about this. While I hope that they will take the lead with cooking/preparing their wonderful dish, I know that parents will probably want to help out. I hope that you will consider making your dish BIG. We are trying to offer food (not a whole meal) to the entire school. So if you're making your favorite soup, is it possible to make it twice as big? I don't want anyone to be put out financially or to stay up all night cooking, but if you're able, make lots of your favorite dish! 2. The Harvest Festival is the 6th grade version of Demonstration Day. So we hope that all parents can make it to enjoy the festivities. In addition to showing up, we'll also need some of you to help out with food serving, running activities, clean-up, etc. Students have created the plan, but extra adults can really help. So let me know if you can pitch in. Much appreciated! Email [email protected] or send a note to school with your child. Check out the excursion page for details regarding the excursion on Wednesday and photos from the camping trip.
Check out the literacy page to see what students are studying in reading this week. Due to a family emergency, Mr. Potter will not be at school on Friday, Sept. 9th. Ms. Mundt's homeroom class will go to Delaney Farm this Friday and Mr. Potter's will go on Sept. 30th.
If students in Ms. Mundt's homeroom class are planning on biking on Friday, they need to bring their bike on Thursday. They can also bring their bikes on Wednesday and leave them here on Friday. The students needs to have their bikes here on Thursday so we know that they are all working and that we have enough bikes for everyone. If students do not bring their bikes on Thursday, they will still come to Delaney Farms with us, but they will ride the RTD with the other students who are not biking. If you have any questions email Ms. Mundt [email protected] Thanks! Back to School Night is tonight! Welcome back!
