Welcome to 6th Grade at DGS!
We are so excited for the 2016-2017 school year! Check here for classroom updates, information about excursions and homework questions throughout the year.
Student-led conferences are held November 7th - 11th.
We sent home a paper sign-up sheet today in class. You can also sign up here. If you return the paper copy to school, it is helpful if you give us two to three times that work for you and then we'll send back the sheet with the time slot that was open. We would like to have all the conferences scheduled by Wednesday, November 2nd. Conferences are 30 minutes long and you'll get to meet with both Mr. Potter about math and Ms. Mundt & Mr. Truitt regarding literacy.

One of our longest-held traditions at DGS is 6th-grade hosted Harvest Festival. This year's version, to be held on Thursday, October 20th, promises to be outstanding. Student committees are working hard to organize all the different food, games, art, and other fun activities for the big day. We need help from parents in two important ways:
1. All students are asked to bring some food to share with everyone for Harvest Festival. I hope that your child has already spoken to you about this. While I hope that they will take the lead with cooking/preparing their wonderful dish, I know that parents will probably want to help out. I hope that you will consider making your dish BIG. We are trying to offer food (not a whole meal) to the entire school. So if you're making your favorite soup, is it possible to make it twice as big? I don't want anyone to be put out financially or to stay up all night cooking, but if you're able, make lots of your favorite dish! 2. The Harvest Festival is the 6th grade version of Demonstration Day. So we hope that all parents can make it to enjoy the festivities. In addition to showing up, we'll also need some of you to help out with food serving, running activities, clean-up, etc. Students have created the plan, but extra adults can really help. So let me know if you can pitch in. Much appreciated! Email [email protected] or send a note to school with your child. |
